Castles and Great Crus wines

Start this journey in Ribeauvillé, a town overlooked by the ruins of the three castles of the Lords of Ribeaupierre. After Bergheim, a fortified medieval wine town: it’s time for the forest, the mountains, and a slightly more intense elevation towards Thannenkirch, located below the Taennchel massif. The descent leads to Saint-Hippolyte. From the Roman road, which offers a gentle return to Ribeauvillé, Rodern, Rorschwihr, and Bergheim are visible; these villages spread across the slopes, some of which are classified as Grands Crus.

The Reichenberg Castle: Located in the municipality of Bergheim, the castle has been listed as a historical monument since 1995. Built in the 13th century by Duke Philippe of Lorraine, it underwent significant renovation work in the 19th century which gave it its current appearance.

The Roman Road: For several centuries, the Romans remained in Alsace. They only left under pressure from the Alemanni at the beginning of the 5th century. Between these two dates, they built cities and army camps which they connected by numerous roads, some of which have preserved certain routes.
