Here is a beautiful hike that primarily takes place on the ridges of the Hautes Vosges or in their immediate vicinity. Despite a significant forest cover, the route offers some lovely viewpoints overlooking the Alsatian slope and the Vosges slope, notably the Saint-Dié basin. You will also pass near some remarkable rocks, near which vigilance remains essential.
The first Tree of Liberty was planted in 1918 by the Americans to symbolize the liberation of Alsace. During World War II, it was used by smugglers as a landmark for the passage of prisoners escaping from occupied Alsace to join Free France.
