The Route
Starting from Cernay, the route takes you along the bike path of the Thur valley towards the lake of Kruth, nestled in a true green setting. Along the way, a visit to the Wesserling Park, a true textile city of the 19th century with a park, garden, and castle over more than 42 hectares, is a must-see. The subsequent climb is particularly athletic and leads up to the ridge line towards Markstein, which rises to about 1200 meters in altitude, and the Grand Ballon, with its pass located at 1348 meters in altitude. The panorama there is breathtaking and well-deserved. The descent is via the Col Amic, a classic stage of the Tour de France. It then joins the Alsace vineyard bike path near Soultz-Haut-Rhin. The route then meanders peacefully back towards the starting point.
