The Path of Resistance and Freedom was created at the initiative of the local Committee of French Remembrance. It connects the Urbeis pass to the Noirceux pass, covering a distance of about 10 km. Twelve panels placed along the route retrace the history of those who, during World War II, participated in the passage of thousands of people who wished to flee German territory to join France.
The route largely follows the old border. Many period markers can be found, engraved with the F for "Frankreich" on one side and the D for "Deutschland" on the other.
Passing through locations known as Les Osières, the Trois Bornes, and the Schlingoutte pass, good physical condition is recommended. In addition to discovering the history of the valley, you will have access to unusual viewpoints. Those who wish can turn back halfway through the course and return to the starting point.
