Way of the Cross to Schauenberg Pfaffenheim

Located between the villages of Pfaffenheim and Gueberschwihr, the chapel was founded in the 15th century. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and was built on the site of a hermitage at the request of a princess who was healed through the prayers of the hermit. The pilgrimage dates back to 1483. The site of Schauenberg, consisting of the chapel and several outbuildings, offers a view of the village. It is situated in the forests of the national area of Pfaffenheim. From the terrace view, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the Alsace plain. The location is particularly impressive in good weather, offering a grand view towards Germany.

Every year, thousands of pilgrims visit the pilgrimage chapel of Schauenberg, some still on foot via the Way of the Cross, which leads from the quiet wine village of Pfaffenheim up halfway up the slope.

For several years now, nuns have been present since the founding of the Saint-Marc convent in Gueberschwihr. There is an eating area on the terrace.
