Fortified town Gravelines is worth a detour. It is beautifully located by the sea. Built at the mouth of the Aa, the city is in a strategic position and is the "gateway to French Flanders". The route takes you to Bourbourg, the "Town in the Marshes", which will surprise you with its numerous historical buildings such as the former prison. Also, take a moment to stop by the Saint John the Baptist Church to admire the "Choir of Light", an extraordinary work of art. Through the countryside, you return to Gravelines to reach the canal where the Aa flows into the North Sea.
