Bouxwiller is nestled at the foot of Bastberg, a witches' refuge, and has made salted pretzel its specialty. However, there are also orchids to be found here and the fossils that Georges Cuvier studied. the Lichtenberg Castle did not survive the French Revolution, but there are still many densely built half-timbered houses from the 16th and 17th centuries on display

Bouxwiller is synonymous with Alsatian traditions that have influenced far beyond regional borders. The hat with the large black ribbon, worn on braided and raised hair, was born here, as well as a number of minuets that were danced until the 19th century.
