Day 1 along the Canal de la Haute Seine and the Seine

This bike ride takes you from Méry-sur-Seine to Troyes. Here begins a "Voie Verte," a bike path in a green environment along the Seine Canal. Beautiful reed beds and small locks with beautifully restored lockkeeper's houses are the sights that will stay with you on this peaceful journey.
The Upper Seine Canal in the Champagne-Ardenne region flows through the departments of Aube and Marne and was meant to connect the Aube and the Seine. As early as the eighteenth century, the canal was designed, but it wasn't until 1846 that it could be put into use. The canal is 76 kilometers long, but only 44 kilometers can be used for navigation.
The canal actually consists of two parts. The navigable part flows through the city of Troyes and extends to Marcilly-sur-Seine. The so-called "Canal without water" runs from Bar-sur-Seine to Troyes, and this part was never put into use.
