Rely-Febvin Palfart: between the mining cairns of a train station

You start the walk in the small farming village of Rely. Shortly after departure, you find yourself on a wide dirt and grass road in the farm outside. Residual groves border the slightly hilly arable land on the ridges. A little further on, you walk what was once an elevated railway embankment. It has now been transformed into a wide dirt road in a beautiful green tunnel. White-red colors a tree stump here and there. Here runs the GR 145 "La Via Francigena", the pilgrimage route that connects Canterbury to Rome.

You walk between pit No. 2 (left, 110 m high) and 2bis (right, 114 m high) - vestiges of a mining past. In the meantime, you can also walk unnoticed on the local hiking trail "Monts et Campagne". You follow this path through the small town Le Transvaal towards the Chemin de Brunehaut, a name not unknown to those who travel regularly in the north of the France.

Straight south, you walk for almost 4 km - the horizon marks the end point - the sometimes wide and sometimes narrow path that climbs slowly through arable land. From time to time, one bush provides a tuft of shade.

When the Chemin de Brunehaut descends into the beautiful valley of the river "Puits sans Fond", you will come across the arrow "GRP Tour de la Lys" (yellow-red) and "GR 127 Sentier des Collines d'Artois" (white-red), which walk here arm in arm towards the nearby Febvin-Plafart. You have about 9 km on the odometer.

You cross the ravine of the Méroise, almost dry, and fully enjoy, on a wide forest road, the freshness of the beautiful but not at all flat (!) forest of oaks and beeches.

You walk to Nedonchel and its eastern sister village Nedon. Here you leave the GR (GRP) again and opt for the local hiking trail La Coqueline. Unpaved, you walk along a forest edge towards the bell tower of the church of the commercial town of Amettes. On a clear day, the Flanders Mountains make their appearance on the northeastern horizon. The Casselberg with the nearby hump of the Wouwenberg, leads the row of hills.
