Expedition Grotte des Deux Avens

You can park your car near the starting point. If you stay at the campsites Le Vieux Vallon, Ardechois or Rives d'Arc, you can walk from the campsite via the Old Bridge over the Ibie to this route. You must be agile. Especially in the area of the end point we do not find a standard walking path but narrow rock paths.

The Grotte des Deux Avens is a cave in the immediate vicinity of Vallon Pont d'Arc. The cave is in the form of two avens that are connected underground and above ground; a unique combination of a Cave and an Aven. There are several entrances, but if you want to take a look inside, the end point of this walk is the most suitable. This entrance is horizontal but watch out for the Avens in the cave, which descend vertically.

This is not a circular walk. We go back the same way.

Adventurers can also visit the Cave with overhanging rock and the Aven Grotte Nouvelle de Vallon. After the visit to the Grotte des Deux Avens 1, continue with the rock (wall) on your right. First you descend a bit and then we have to climb a lot with the rocks always on the right hand. We climb up in a wide arc between trees to this beautiful picnic area. Note, it is descending and climbing with hands and feet!

After the picnic under the rock we walk further up and we see a small cave on our left. A little further we find a small path that will eventually take us to the Aven Grotte Nouvelle de Vallon (max. 100 meter).

The Aven Grotte Nouvelle de Vallon is a famous cave for cavers. The cave is frequently visited, but you do need climbing equipment for a secured descent. The cave starts with an oval opening directly on a walking path with a diameter of about 1 meter. There are various floor plans available on the internet. Immediately after the entrance there is a kind of staircase constructed which descends considerably. So it is not smart to enter here.

After the Aven Grotte Nouvelle de Vallon we find a wider path back to the main route.
