Around the lake of Hourtin and a brisk walk to the ocean

This lively but very traffic-free cycling route provides a beautiful view of the region, the wooded dune area, and steep dune ridges (on the western and northern side of the lake).
We start from the child-friendly Hourtin Port (beautiful beach, shallow water, Île aux enfants, ...) via a beautifully constructed bike path towards Carcans. From there, we continue to the popular Maubuisson, along the lake further to Bombannes. There are beautiful picnic spots on the shores of the lake between Bombannes and Pointe de Malignac. There, we dive into the wooded and hilly area (mainly fragrant pine forests). Alternatively, one can enjoy a nice lunch heading towards Piqueyrot (Le Nautique). Once in Contaut, we have the choice between a challenging ride to Hourtin Plage where the stunning white beaches of the Atlantic coast await us (about 8 km round trip) or we start the return journey to Hourtin Port. Although here too, the first kilometer goes quite steeply up and down.
Back in Hourtin Port, there are more than enough terraces where we can quench our thirst.
