45 years after his death, a memorial to Lord Byron was finally placed on the floor of the Westminster Abbey after he was "spiritually acceptable in his homeland". He got a a plaque in the Poets' Corner of Westminster Abbey. It took such a long time because Lord Byron had "a worldwide reputation for immorality among English-speaking people". Bishop Herbert Ryle wrote before : He was "a man who outraged the laws of our Divine Lord, and whose treatment of women violated the Christian principles of purity and honor, should not be commemorated in Westminster Abbey".
