Manx cats are first described on the Isle of Man. The Manx breed originated before the 1700s on the Isle of Man (hence the name). A remarkable feature is that they rather hop while running and they have no tail. Recent postcards on the Isle of Man show a cartoon scene of a cat''s tail being run over and removed by a motorbike, because motorbike racing is popular on the Island, since there is no speed limit.
