Did you know that the Eagle was frequented by staff from the Cavendish Laboratory. These patrons included Francis Crick and James Watson. On 28th February 1953, Crick and Watson walked into the Eagle and announced "we have discovered the secret of life", referring of course to their discovery of the double helix structure of DNA. Throughout the years they dined together here six days a week! When discussing DNA breakthrough, we mustn't forget about Rosalind Franklin and her enormous contribution.
