Description

On July 25, 1978, Louise Joy Brown was born here at the Royal Oldham Hospital. She is an English woman who is known for being the first human being to be born after conception via in vitro fertilization (IVF) . Her birth, following a procedure developed in Britain, is considered one of the most remarkable medical breakthroughs of the 20th century.

Louise Brown was born in Oldham, England, as a result of the pioneering work of doctors Patrick Steptoe and Robert Edwards . Her birth revolutionized reproductive medicine and gave hope to millions of couples with fertility problems worldwide. Since then, millions of children have been born worldwide through IVF and other assisted reproduction technologies.

The birth of Louise Brown was the result of years of research, experimentation and perseverance. The procedure involved fertilizing an egg with sperm outside the mother’s body, and then placing the embryo in the womb. This was revolutionary at the time and was met with much ethical and religious debate, but is now widely accepted.

The inventor of IVF, Robert Edwards, received the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2010.
