The Vulcan Restoration Trust (Registered Charity: 1058111) is responsible for XL426, one of three surviving live Avro Vulcans, based at London Southend Airport, which is maintained in taxiing condition. The VRT has no plans to restore XL426 to airworthiness although was closely involved with XH558 and her return to flight in the early days of the Vulcan To The Sky project. The shortage of new and/or zero timed Olympus engines are a major technical hurdle but the huge cost of returning a Vulcan to flight as a civilian aircraft (as experienced by Vulcan To The Sky) make flying XL426 a practical impossibility. However XL426 will be maintained in her original bomber configuration and 'live' for as long as practically possible.
