The famous Alexander von Humboldt was a welcome guest at the Royal Society as a leading scientist of his time. At that time, the Royal Society was not located here but in Somerset House. In the beautiful book "The Invention of Nature," the author Andrea Wulf describes that Alexander von Humboldt was not impressed with the food of the exclusive Royal Society Dining Club. Alexander was accustomed to the delightful French cuisine from Paris. He reportedly said, "I dined at the Royal Society, where one gets poisoned."
