Le célèbre Alexander von Humboldt était, en tant que scientifique de premier plan de son époque, un invité apprécié de la Royal Society. À cette époque, la Royal Society ne se trouvait pas ici mais à Somerset House. Dans le magnifique livre "Le découvreur de la nature", l'auteur Andrea Wulf décrit qu'Alexander von Humboldt n'était pas satisfait de la nourriture de l'exclusive Royal Society Dining Club. Alexander était alors habitué à la délicieuse cuisine française de Paris. Il aurait déclaré : "J'ai dîné à la Royal Society, où l'on est empoisonné".
