A walk through the past of this major city is best started at St. Pauls Cathedral (St. Pauls metro).
In 1666 her predecessor fell prey to the flames. Sir Christopher Wren was then commissioned to build a new, even more beautiful house of worship, something he certainly succeeded in doing. With its imposing, painted dome, St. Paul's is the most beautiful church in the city. The foundation stone was laid in 1675 and for the next 35 years Sir Christopher followed the progress closely every Friday. In passing, he also drew up plans for 50 other churches in London. At the age of 78, he experienced his greatest triumph: his son placed the keystone in the dome of the cathedral.
