The National Trust estate of Castle Ward lies on the southern shore of Strangford Lough, and offers a wonderful mix of historic buildings and natural habitat. To help you explore it there are four signed walking trails, ranging in length from 3km to 13km.

The orange Farm Trail is one of the best options. You begin by passing through woodland along the shore of beautiful Strangford Lough, then loop around the imposing 15th-century tower house of Audley’s Castle. Return through a combination of trees and open pasture, before passing a walled garden and ducking through an underpass back to the start.

At the centre of it all, there’s no avoiding the imposing manor house built in the 1760s. Fans of the popular TV series Game of Thrones will also recognise no less than 10 filming locations dotted within the estate grounds.
