On one of the most beautiful squares of Athens you will find the monument of Lisikratos. The monument you see here dates back to 333 BC and was also admired by both Lord Byron as by Chateaubriand. They both stayed in a cloister next to the square during their visit here. The monastery was destroyed in 1824 by Omar Turk Pasha during the Greek War of Independence. Chateaubriand included his stories of Athens in his book "Les Martyrs" and "Itinéraire de Paris à Jerusalem".
