The Acropolis Museum contains the most important pieces of art found on the Acropolis. Before this museum was opened, you could see those pieces of art in the small museum at the top of the Acropolis.
You will also see some empty spaces in the museum. These are reserved for the "Elgin Marbles". These pieces were 'bought' by the English from the Turks when they occupied Greece.
Merlina Mercourri tried to get back the Elgin Marbles but didn't succeed. You can see the Elgin Marbles in the British Museum in London.
