Marousi is well known for its pottery. The earth of Marousi is very clayey and typically dark red. The clay is what's left when the limestones and marbles of the Penteli Mountain north of Marousi weathers. A lof of that weathered material was deposited here near the town of Marousi.
Potters made use of that clay since ancient times. Still today you find pottery shops such as these here.
