The rocks of Meteora are conglomerates: a mixture of smaller limestone pebbles cemented together. Although the rock looks smooth from far away, you will notice it is not a smooth rock when you are standing close.
The rocks were deposited here when the area south of Meteora was a lake and shallow sea.
