Most of the houses near the beach of Vathi can only be reached via the beach because the main paved road stops at the border of the village. If you rent a room in Vathi, there is a big chance you will carry your luggage with a wheelbarrow (or they will do that for you). Because there are no roads and as such cars in the village, it makes it a great place for children.
