Stoicism is a school of Hellenistic philosophy that flourished throughout the Roman and Greek world until the 3rd century AD. It is linked with the word stoa or column. There was a colonnade on the north side of the Agora of Athens, where the founder of the Stoa, Zeno of Citium (Cyprus, 334-264 BC) gave his education.
