The ancient walking paths which have been built all over the island are definitely a very impressive work of collective labour. But even more to me, and rarely mentioned in tourist guides is the work which went in the construction and maintenance of the agriculture terraces. You will find them all over the island, especially in the geological units of schist and gneiss, providing more soil to collect and store in those terraces (in comparison with the marbles, which are not providing so much soil when these rocks weather). Unfortunately, a lot of these terraces are not maintained anymore, because of the reducing agricultural activity. And this piece of cultural heritage threatens to get destroyed.
