The road along the coast leading into Myrina from the south gives you a great opportunity to look into the geological belly of this region. You can see here a very turbulent part of the geological history of the island. The biggest part along the road shows you the volcanic lava domes of the Myrina unit. Guessing from the grey color, the type of volcanic rock are dacites. But you will also see blocks and boulders ripped of from older volcanic parts in the matrix of the volcanic rocks.
A specific section (see picture) shows some great nonconformities of the older sedimentary rocks (layered) but squeezed, folded, heated and shifted by these volcanic flows. The pressure and heat made the sedimentary rocks metamorphic.
