Neraidovrisi is named after Poseidon's water nymphs, or the Naiads. According to the Greeks, they personified and guarded all rivers, lakes, swamps, fountains and springs. The Naiads are mainly related to fresh water. The village Neraidovrisi is now virtually uninhabited. And that is often the case with the higher mountain villages on the eastern and colder flank of the central ridge of Messinia.
