Neraidovrisi is genoemd naar waternimfen van Poseidon, of de naiaden. Ze personifieerden en bewaakten volgens de Grieken alle rivieren, meren, moerassen, fonteinen en bronnen. De Naiaden zijn vooral verwant aan het zoete water. Het dorp is nu zo goed als onbewoond. En dat is dikwijls het geval met de hogere bergdorpen aan de oostelijke, en koudere flank van de centrale bergrug van Messinia.
