During the period of governance of the newly established Greek state, the effort to establish a uniform educational system of primary education based on the mutual teaching method began.
The first school in the Peloponnese that was designed and built with co-educational specifications is the Methoni school. The Kapodistrian School of Methoni was built in a location indicated by I. Kapodistrias during his first visit to the city in the spring of 1829. The building was placed in a building block of the urban plan of Methoni which is the first urban plan of the city of the modern Greek state and has approved by I. Kapodistrias. The school operated for 108 years and in 1940 was sold to a private individual. In 1951 it was declared a historical and preserved building and since then the effort to expropriate it began which was completed in 2001, after 50 years. Finally, it took another 14 years to restore it.
On the outer and inner side of the walls there are clearly visible traces of inscriptions from the period of the National Resistance. These are EPON slogans with cultural content, e.g. for "theater for the people", which shows the use of the building by EPON for cultural events. The importance of the monument is even greater, since the fragments of the great epic of the National Resistance are rare.
The grant opening of the school took place in August 1830 and operated continuously until 1938, when it was auctioned and bought by a private entity.
In 2016, its restoration was completed and it is now available for hosting cultural events.
