Skerries' Red Island looks a lot like the ancient city of Tyre in Lebanon. This city was once an island of the coast of Lebanon, but when Alexander The Great came to conquer it in 332 BC, he made a causeway to get his army to the island without having to put them on boats. This causeway still exists today and forms an integral part of the connection of the old city centre and the coast.
