Description by the author

Welcome to the Ticknock Mountain Bike Trails, a network of purpose-built singletrack trails and forest roads designed for mountain biking. The Red Loop is a challenging 16 km route, featuring difficult to severe sections with fast, flowing trails and tight, technical singletrack. Expect steep, narrow paths with variable surfaces—rock, roots, mud, loose stones, and gravel—that can become slippery when wet. This trail is not suitable for novice riders.

The route includes iconic trails like Devil’s Elbow, a fast and rocky descent with drops and berms; Blazing Saddles, a thrilling and technical climb; Tomahawk, a dynamic section with sharp turns; and the legendary Skyline, a 2 km+ trail celebrated as one of the most fun in the country.

Starting and finishing at the car park, the loop features 306 meters of climbing and takes 1.5 to 3 hours to complete. The trails are waymarked in one direction, so follow the red arrows. Be prepared to encounter forest vehicles and other users, as the route crosses walking trails and uses sections of forest roads. Trails on the upper slopes are exposed and can be very windy in poor weather.

Important:

  • Ensure your mountain bike is in good working order.
  • Wear a helmet and appropriate gear.
  • Ride with consideration for other forest users and control your speed.
  • Choose a trail that matches your fitness and skill level.

Ticknock’s trails promise an exhilarating ride—guaranteed to leave you smiling!
