West of the famous MacGillycuddy Reeks lies the quiet and remote Coomasaharn Lake, surrounded by a dramatic mountain ridge that forms the Coomasaharn Horseshoe walking route. This peaceful yet challenging hike follows the ridge above the lake and the valley below, offering expansive views throughout the route.

Located near Glenbeigh in County Kerry, the Coomasaharn Horseshoe is a demanding 16 km loop walk that typically takes 6–7 hours to complete. The route climbs across a series of peaks forming the horseshoe ridge, including Been Hill (651 m), Mullaghnarakill (665 m), Teermoyle Mountain (760 m), Coomacarrea / An Tráigh (772 m), Meenteog (715 m), and Knocknaman (561 m).

For walkers looking for a longer challenge, the route can be extended to 24 km by including Macklaun Mountain (607 m) before descending back towards Glenbeigh.
