Previously, the village of Castelnuovo Don Bosco was named Castelnuovo d'Asti. It was renamed in honor of John (Don) Bosco. Here stands the impressive Basilica of John Bosco. In the parish church, Don Bosco was baptized in 1815 and received his priestly vestments in 1835. As a child, Don Bosco came to the elementary school twice a day from the village of Becchi. Giuseppe Cafasso and Domenico Savio, who were both later canonized, also attended the elementary school here.
