Varenna is a town in the Italian region of Lombardy and belongs to the province of Lecco.
The picturesque town is located on the eastern shore of Lake Como at the mouth of the Esino River. The village has many narrow alleys with steps and has a small old fishing port. The main building in the village is the church of San Giorgio from 1313 with its tall bell tower.
From Varenna, a car ferry travels back and forth to the town of Cadenabbia on the other shore. There are also regular boat connections to the towns of Menaggio and Bellagio. Varenna has a station on the Milan-Tirano railway line.
