Description

Lake Iseo - "Sebinus lacus" for the Romans - is divided into two important provinces of Lombardy: Bergamo and Brescia. Bergamo includes the western shore that descends steeply into the water of the lake and provides spectacular landscapes that can be admired on the provincial road carved into the rocks. Brescia includes the eastern bank. The shore from Dolce da Iseo to Marone is sloping, after which it steepens with the rocks of the Corna dei Trentapassi standing directly with their feet in the water. The lake, which lies at the entrance to the Valle Camonica and forms an important passage to the province of Trento, the city of Bolzano, and therefore Central Europe, was for thousands of years a mandatory road for those who wanted to descend from the north to the south. Until the last century, ferries brought people and goods from one bank to the other. Large boats with square sails, up to forty meters long, which sailed from the ports of Iseo and Sarnico, the capitals of the south of the lake, to Lovere and Pisogne.
