The Santa Maria della Vittoria is mainly known for the rich tomb of Cardinal Federico Corner (or Cornaro). He belonged to that wealthy Venetian family that produced four doges. His connection to Rome came because he was a member of the papal conclave and holder of the title of Santa Maria in Trastevere. He was also bishop of Albano, a wealthy diocese south of Rome.
The tomb depicts the image of Saint Teresa of Avila at the moment she is struck by an arrow from an angel, sent by God. The scene is observed from the loges by figures from the Corner family. The whole is a masterpiece of Bernini.
