Irsina, until 1895 called Montepeloso , is a town, comune and former Latin bishopric in the province of Matera, in the Southern Italian region of Basilicata.
Irsina is an agricultural town perched 550 metres above sea level. It enjoys amazing panoramic views of the surrounding countryside overlooking a grain plateau which produces much of the pasta used across Italy. The economy is mostly based on agriculture, with the production of cereals and wine.
