This is what happened in Termeno in jan 2014. As you know, a valley created by a glacier, such as the the Adige valley, has very steep valley sides. That's why these valleys area called U-shaped valleys, also called trough valleys or glacial troughs.The steep valley sides are instable (depending on the type of rock). And they are prone to landslides, as you can see in this video.
