It was here around lake Trasimeon that one of the battles against Hannibal took place who was on his way to Rome. At this spot, he only had one elephant left anymore. The battle was so bloody that a nearby village is still called Sanguineto or "bloodstaned". The river running through that village was 3 days coloured red from the blood. Hannibal won the battle and the Romans lost it.
