Blockhaus (cycling summit)

Description

The climb to the Blockhaus mountain pas is now a classsic because it is frequently part of the Giro. The "Blockhaus" refers to the shelter of stone used by soldiers, built in 1860. The "real" climb starts at 1648m above sea level at hotel Mamma Rosa. But there are three main starting pints: Roccamorice (the most difficult ascent), Fara Filiorum Petri (the most easy ascent) and Lettomanoppello. Before 1967, the climb to this spot was called the climb to Majella. But the Giro director changed it in Blockhaus because that was triggering the imagination much more.
