Trafoi

Trafoi (1543 m; 200 inhabitants) consists of only a few houses and mainly hotels and guesthouses - built on a mountain slope above the valley of the Rio Trafoi - and is particularly suitable for practicing winter sports. Unfortunately, the village suffers from the through traffic to the Stelvio Pass, making it less suitable as a tranquil place to stay. Worth seeing is the wooden church Le Tre Fontane ('to the Holy Three Fountains'), located 45 minutes south of Trafoi, from where you can take a circular walk along the three waterfalls and return to Trafoi via the Annaweg.

From Trafoi, there are more walks to be made, although these are sometimes a bit less spectacular than those from Solda.

A small, simple circular walk leads along the footpath 'Lungo Torrente' (Cave Path) and the higher path 'al Bosco' (Glurns Forest Path). Total time is just over 2 hours.

In the northern direction, a path leads to Campo Piccolo (Small Ground) with the Furkelhütte (2267 m; about 3 hours). Here, too, there are stunning views of the Ortler group and the Ötztal Alps. A chairlift also runs from Trafoi to Campo Piccolo. From the hut, a marked path leads high above the valley of the Trafoi to the Passo dello Stelvio. This 'Wormsion-steig' is not too difficult and offers spectacular views.
