Plätzwiese is a popular high plateau in the Pragser Dolomites in South Tyrol within the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park. The plateau, located at about 2000 m at the southern end of the Pragser Valley, is surrounded by the mountain massifs of Hohe Gaisl, the Three Peaks, Tofana, and Monte Cristallo. The plateau is accessible via a toll road from Prags in the north or via a non-public road from Schluderbach in the south. Among other things, it is the starting point for hikes to Dürrenstein and Helltaler Schlechten. From 1898 to 1900, Musch & Lun built the Plätzwiese Hotel, which by 1900 was considered one of the most beautiful mountain hotels in South Tyrol. Unfortunately, the charming building was destroyed by a fire. Today, the Plätzwiese Mountain Inn, the Hohe Gaisl Hotel, and the Dürrensteinhütte offer accommodation. On the Plätzwiese, there is the externally restored Austro-Hungarian defense facility Werk Plätzwiese.
