The former psychiatric hospital of Vercelli is a complex of buildings originally used for the maintenance and care of patients with mental health issues.
In Vercelli, a lunatic asylum already existed in the 19th century. By the end of 1874, it was one of the four public asylums in Piedmont, housing 149 patients. The new architectural complex was designed by engineer Luigi Martina and built on land specifically acquired for this purpose. Between 1935 and 1937, while the hospital complex was still under construction, psychiatrist Adamo Mario Fiamberti was appointed director, who not only oversaw the completion of the structure but also developed the regulations for its future operation.
