The pass connects the Marmora Valley with the Meja-Gardetta plateau, situated between the Maira Valley and the Stura di Demonte Valley.
There is a panel on the Fortifications Path.
On the Gardetta-Meja side, it is reached by an ex-military dirt road, dating back to the 30s - 40s. On the Marmora side, the road is incomplete, and the pass can be reached on an unpaved road at first and then by a path. Even in the mid-eighteenth century, the crossing was of great military importance: it was reached by the so-called Road of the Cannons, which connected the defensive positions of the upper Varaita Valley with the Barricades of the Stura di Demonte Valley through the Maira and Grana valleys. At the foot of the pass on the southern side, the former military barracks in ruins still exist, which made up the logistical complex of the Bandia. The pass is crossed by the Fortifications Path, a route of about 60 km that develops between the upper Maira Valley and the Varaita Valley, from the Bellino Pass to the Mulo Pass. Walking it means taking a leap into the past, observing closely the remains of barracks, bunkers, fortifications, and cables built by soldiers on these high mountains.
