The duchy of Urbino was annexxed as a province of the Papal State after the dead of the last duke Francesco Maria II della Rovere in 1625. So in 1655 the Palazzo Ducale of Pesaro was the te residence of the cardinal-legate Luigi Homodei. He received Queen Christina of Sweden during her journey to Rome. Nowadays the palace is used as the main city hall.
