This statue of Galileo Galilei is on the Borgo Stretto with a sign stating that he was born here.
But: he was not born in Borgo Stretto and the municipality knows that!
It was installed in Largo Ciro Menotti because it was near his birthplace. Too bad that historical research for years has shown that Galileo Galilei was not born in Borgo Stretto. The statue dedicated to the father of modern science thus arouses a historical falsehood; it misleads tourists who pass under Bocca's house where a plaque, erroneously placed but never removed, marks the scientist's birthplace; it creates even more confusion, as another plaque is placed at Ammannati's house in Via Giusti, a building listed in historical documents as Galileo's real birthplace
