The church was built after 1316 in memory of the German soldiers who died at the Battle of Montecatini; it was then called San Giorgio degli Innocenti because it was attached to the Trovatelli Hospital in 1414; from 1784 it was attached to the Ospedali Riuniti di Santa Chiara.
The interior is a single brick hall with traces of frescoed coats of arms on the outside. Renovated from 1722, the interior preserves a 14th-century wooden crucifix by a German artist and rich decoration of gilded stucco and paintings from the 18th century. In addition, the church has a small bell gable.
From 2009 to 2013, the Tridentine Mass was celebrated there by the Comitato Pisano San Pio V, which is part of the Coordinamento Toscano Benedetto XVI. Since January 2014, the celebration has been transferred to the Church of Santa Apollonia.
