The Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta is the parish church of Camaiore, located in the historic center. The church was founded in 1278, but is already mentioned in an estimo of 1260, in which it is mentioned under the name Ecclesia Sanctae Mariae de Burgo Campi Majoris. The Collegiate Church is also notable for its special veneration of the Name of Jesus, a cult instituted by Saint Bernardino in 1424 and made official by the Holy See in 1683 (although this name has been celebrated every June 1 since 1528) . About thirty years after the construction of the bell tower, completed in 1356, Pope Urban VI Prignano, with the bull of January 4, 1387, granted the privilege of the baptismal font to the Church of Santa Maria, giving the entire parish area to the jurisdiction of the Pieve was withdrawn. Later, the Church of Santa Maria Assunta also received the title of Collegiate Church in 1515 and of Insignia in 1796.
